The right to water in Serbia: Current status and perspectives
Access to water and sanitation have been recognized by the United Nations as human rights fundamental to the health, dignity and prosperity of every person and are included in the 2030 Agenda. As a signatory to the 2030 Agenda, Serbia has committed to implementing this strategically important document, however, based on available data, it is evident that it will not meet the set goals in terms of accessibility and sustainable management of water and sanitation. This paper provides a brief overview of the current state of the right to water in Serbia and the basic activities that Serbia should implement in order to improve the very poor situation in this area and ensure the right to water and sanitation for all its citizens.
