Current status of regional water supply systems in Serbia and potential development

The Water Master Plan (WMP) of Serbia is a basic planning document (adopted in 2002), which aimed to reserve areas with potential for future significant sources, and which envisaged 18 regional water supply system (RWS). The Water Management Strategy for the Territory of the Republic of Serbia until 2034, amended some of the solutions proposed by the WMP, in accordance with the development and new knowledge. The paper provides an overview of the current state of the RWS and examines possible directions of development in the next 20-25 years. For all of them, approximate economic parameters are also given. It is understood that not all of the given solutions for possible development will be realized (and probably most of them in the given period), and that the given list is not final, i.e. that solutions that are not currently in the picture will also be imposed. The main idea of the paper is to show that any option for developing the RWS is not an insurmountable problem with the adequate implementation of institutional and organizational changes in the State.
