Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in Foot and Ankle Surgery: Current Concepts and Future Directions

Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have permeated various medical fields, including orthopedics, where they offer advanced methods for diagnosis, treatment, and surgical intervention. Deep learning models have been utilized to diagnose foot and ankle conditions like hallux valgus, flatfoot, and calcaneus fractures, leading to improved clinical outcomes. Furthermore, AI-integrated devices have the potential to enhance rehabilitation and allow for sophisticated anthropometric analyses. However, challenges persist, notably in data security and the need for effective interdisciplinary collaboration. The future of AI in foot and ankle surgery is promising, with potential for improved patient outcomes and streamlined clinical workflows. This mini-review explores the role of AI as it pertains to the domain of foot and ankle surgery.
