Multi-Energy Systems Optimization with Hydrogen Integration
New technologies and operating concepts have been investigated to decarbonize and digitalize the energy sector. One of these concepts is using multi-energy systems (MES), which improve energy use. The energy hub is a platform for harmonizing and integrating various technologies in MES, enabling synergistic interactions between the various systems. Different components that produce and consume power within an energy hub can benefit the grid by adding renewable and storage energy systems. However, installing the same type of energy storage has limited improvement to the entire system when the total installed energy storage capacity is constant. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze the impact of integrating hydrogen storage systems in optimizing Electrical, Heating, and Cooling Loads in MES operation while considering renewables and battery storage systems, as well as its benefits in reducing the total cost of operation, integrating renewables and improving network resilience. The model is developed using mixed integer linear programming (MILP). The results show that in the presence of different types of storage, namely hydrogen storage systems, there is an energy cost reduction, improved energy penetration, and contributes to the system's decarbonization.
