A Household-Level Study on Tackling Energy Poverty in Latvia
Energy poverty remains a pressing issue in Europe, affecting over 46 million individuals and disproportionately impacting vulnerable groups. This paper examines strategies to mitigate energy poverty through energy efficiency measures, cost-reduction literacy, and carbon-neutral technologies, focusing on Latvia. Using a multidimensional approach that integrates quantitative data analysis and qualitative insights from semi-structured interviews, the study explores household behaviour, knowledge gaps, and practical barriers to adopting sustainable solutions. Findings reveal that while most respondents understand the basic components of electricity costs, detailed knowledge and trust in electricity suppliers remain limited. The paper proposes actionable solutions, including energy-efficient practices, tariff adjustments, and the adoption of renewable technologies, to reduce electricity costs and improve financial stability. By enhancing energy literacy and promoting sustainable technologies, significant reductions in energy consumption and expenses can be achieved, thereby contributing to alleviating energy poverty and fostering a transition toward a carbonneutral future.
