Optimal Location of Refuelling Stations for Hydrogen-Powered Freight Vehicles: A Comparison of Solution Algorithms

This work focuses on the optimal location of refuelling stations for hydrogen-powered freight vehicles. After describing the proposed optimisation model, the paper aims to test different solution algorithms on a test network to verify their applicability to real-sized networks. The results show that some algorithms solve in a time compatible with a possible application to a real-sized network, while others are very time-consuming and are not compatible with real-world applications. From the analyses, greedy and evolutionary algorithms are the most promising in terms of the trade-off between solution quality and computation time.

Abstract

This work focuses on the optimal location of refuelling stations for hydrogen-powered freight vehicles. After describing the proposed optimisation model, the paper aims to test different solution algorithms on a test network to verify their applicability to real-sized networks. The results show that some algorithms solve in a time compatible with a possible application to a real-sized network, while others are very time-consuming and are not compatible with real-world applications. From the analyses, greedy and evolutionary algorithms are the most promising in terms of the trade-off between solution quality and computation time.
