Short-term impacts of weather conditions on biomarkers among urban adults in Greece
In this work, we investigate the relation between weather and atmospheric conditions, and the biomarkers Platelet-Lymphocyte Ratio (PLR) and Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR). In more detail, we are interested in identifying how significant weather and atmospheric changes can affect people’s health over time. For this purpose we introduce a new dataset that combines data from a recent population study along with historical meteorological measurements. We initially conduct timeseries exploratory analysis and then focus on changepoint detection and analysis of multivariate time series data in an effort to identify major incidents and their consequences. Interestingly, the results showed that the NLR and PLR biomarkers are significantly related to the major changes in weather and atmospheric conditions.
