PENINGKATAN LITERASI ANAK TUNARUNGU MELALUI APLIKASI PERMAINAN DEAFLEARN

Dunia Tak Lagi Sunyi which is based in Sleman, Yogyakarta, is an informal forum committed to supporting children who are deaf. The community provides reading and writing training for deaf children using picture paper. However, with the current practices, parents are unable to teach them at home due to material limitations. In this community empowerment activity, we tried to propose a mobile game application, named “DeafLearn” to help those parents in teaching deaf children reading and writing. The game is designed to help deaf children understand some vocabularies, replacing the existing training practices using some picture practices. Once the mobile application was developed, we tried to interview and distribute a questionnaire to some parents and children to understand the level of satisfaction regarding this mobile application. The result indicates that parents have 70-85% level of satisfaction with this mobile application. Similarly, children are satisfied with the mobile application with 70-79% level of satisfaction. A high level of satisfaction can demonstrate how DeafLearn can help to improve deaf children’s literacy and help parents to teach them at their home.
