The Dinner
Does non-biological meat end traditional dietary moral objections? In this work of philosophical short fiction, Mary, a journalist known for her ethical stance on industrial meat production, is invited to a mysterious and exclusive dinner hosted by a reclusive Silicon Valley billionaire. The evening unfolds with biofabricated dodo meat and culminates with a shocking offering of lab-grown human flesh. As the host challenges his guests to justify their moral qualms against consuming meat without sentience or environmental impact, Mary and the other attendees are forced to confront their deeply ingrained ethical assumptions about food, taboos, and the ever-shifting landscape of morality in the face of radical technological innovation.
