Smart Emission monitoring: leveraging AI and advanced sensors to monitor and reduce air pollution in offshore waste management
This study presents a novel emission monitoring system for offshore waste management, leveraging deep learning algorithms and high-precision sensor arrays to monitor and reduce atmospheric pollutants in real-time. The proposed framework integrates multi-spectral gas analysers, electrochemical sensors, and laser-based particulate matter detectors within a distributed neural network architecture, enabling comprehensive emissions analysis. The proposed framework utilizes a hybrid approach, combining Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to predict emission events and optimize waste treatment protocols. The hybrid CNN-LSTM approach enables effective pattern recognition and prediction of emission events. The system incorporates advanced sensor technologies, including quantum cascade laser spectroscopy and differential optical absorption spectroscopy, and a novel sensor fusion algorithm to synthesize data from various sensing modalities. The machine learning framework adapts to varying atmospheric conditions and operational variables through transfer learning and optimizes waste treatment protocols using reinforcement learning. The framework's performance is evaluated in reducing atmospheric pollutants, and its potential implications for autonomous environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance in maritime waste management operations are explored. This research aims to enhance the efficiency of emission monitoring in marine environments through real-time AI-driven analysis of multimodal sensor data, with implications for autonomous environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance in maritime waste management operations.
