Skin oncology
A 49-year-old woman with unresectable gastric cancer had a biopsy of an umbilical nodule, which confirmed metastatic adenocarcinoma. Sister Mary Joseph nodule (SMJN) is a rare cutaneous manifestation of metastatic malignancy most commonly associated with adenocarcinoma. SMJN often indicates advanced cancer and has a poor prognosis. Treatment is primarily palliative, with an average survival of approximately 11 months following diagnosis.
