Experimental work on gaseous and boiling heat transfer associated with the design of the Dragon primary heat exchangers and some aspects of their manufacture. Project DRAGON
After a concise review of design principles and data of the Dragon Primary Heat Exchangers, selected aspects of their manufacture, assembling under clean conditions and workshop testing are discussed. Experimental work performed under participation of Dragon Project to establish the gas-side heat transfer oharacteristics of the concentric multistart heliooil tube bundles is reviewed and evaluated. Further, experimental work in the field of boiling heat transfer, including film boiling ("burn-out“) studies under the working conditions of the Dragon Reactor, is described and an outline is given of present and planned future work in this field under conditions of the Dragon Reactor Experiment and of large High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactors.
