A Study on the Narrative Structure of Chinese Female-Oriented OTT Dramas from the Perspective of Narrative Voice Theory: Focusing on Delicious Romance

In recent years, driven by the rise of the "female economy" and the influence of feminist thought, Chinese female-oriented OTT dramas have experienced rapid development. However, they also face significant creative challenges, including narrative homogenisation and a disconnect from real-life contexts. This paper adopts Susan S. Lanser's theory of narrative voice as its analytical framework and focuses on Delicious Romance, a representative work of narrative innovation within this genre. It explores how the drama integrates three types of narrative voices-authorial, personal, and communal-to construct a triple-layered narrative structure of "individual story -collective discussion -social reflection."The study finds that the series employs an authorial voice to convey a feminist perspective through culinary metaphors, a personal voice to construct diverse female identities via the protagonist's monologue, and a collective voice to elevate shared female experiences through interactions among close friends. The organic integration of these three narrative voices serves as an effective strategy to overcome the common issue of narrative homogenization in female-oriented content. This model is also reflected in cases of Korean OTT dramas, demonstrating its theoretical potential for cross-genre storytelling and its applicability across media platforms. It offers a methodology that balances market appeal with artistic expression in female-oriented OTT productions and holds significant implications for innovation in gender narratives.
