Accounting Principles and Cash Flow Management for Non-Profit Organizations
Cash flow management is central to financial sustainability in non-profit organizations, directly influencing their ability to deliver mission-driven services. This article examines the principles of forecasting, budgeting, continuous monitoring, and optimization strategies in non-profit financial management. Given the volatility of funding streams, including donations, grants, and service revenues, non-profits must adopt structured approaches to maintain liquidity and operational continuity. Drawing on illustrative examples such as Charity: Water and Heifer International, the article highlights best practices for transparent reporting, revenue diversification, and strategic financial planning. Integrating theory with practice, it provides actionable guidance for managers, financial officers, and board members to strengthen fiscal resilience, uphold accountability, and ensure sustainable impact.
