First report of Schistocerca gregaria oil fractions against multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa clinical isolates

Schistocerca gregaria oil fractions against multidrug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa clinical isolates were evaluated. Four fractions (namely, FR 15, 22, 31, and 45) were extracted, pooled together, characterised, and then used against multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa. Molecular docking was used to predict the binding interactions of the most active compounds. The entomochemicals present were cardio glycosides, phenolic compounds, steroids, flavonoids and terpenoids. The zone of inhibition and oxidative stress biomarkers were concentration and fraction dependent. The FR 45 exhibited the highest antibacterial activity with 14.2 ± 0.34 mm at 100 mg/ml. Molecular docking output reveals five best compounds of S. gregaria oil fraction 45 that interact with the PqsA receptor-enzyme of P. aeruginosa with scores ranging from -81.0698 to -142.741 kcal/mol, with the highest scores in Linoleyl methyl ketone. S. gregaria oil fractions trigger oxidative stress enzymes in multidrug-resistant P. aeruginosa clinical isolates and therefore are promising natural products with novel antibacterial agents.
