Using earth observation data for studying climate migration: an exploration of methodological opportunities and constraints

Abstract As the effects of climate change are increasingly being felt, understanding its impact on population and migration trends is becoming crucial. Although some research has covered the link between the two, a systematic approach remains uncharted territory. As knowledge on both climate-induced migration and climate change are both extremely complex, developing a cross-fielded methodological approach with the potential to tackle them simultaneously is a promising avenue to put forward. This article introduces a novel methodology that leverages the disruptive capabilities of Earth Observation to examine the highly complex relationships between the various impacts of climate change and climate-induced migration.
