FUTURE PERSPECTIVES IN TISSUE REGENERATION AND PERSONALIZED TREATMENT USING 3D PRINTING AND BIOPRINTING TECHNOLOGIES

Recent advances in 3D printing and 3D bioprinting are transforming the field of tissue regeneration, offering unprecedented precision and versatility in biomedical research. One promising application is the development of 3D-printed microstents for drug delivery testing and stent coating evaluation in preclinical models. These microstents, designed for use in murine models, enable detailed in vivo studies of drug-eluting stent performance, paving the way for the optimization of coatings that can reduce restenosis and thrombosis rates. By leveraging the scalability and customization of 3D printing, researchers can rapidly prototype and refine microstent designs to meet the anatomical and physiological requirements of small animal models. The ultimate goal of this research is to translate these findings into novel treatments for cardiovascular diseases, addressing a major global health burden. Furthermore, this work lays the foundation for integrating cardiovascular organoids—miniaturized and functional heart-like tissues derived from stem cells—into drug development pipelines. By combining 3D bioprinting with organoid technology, we can create physiologically relevant platforms for high-throughput drug screening and mechanistic studies, offering insights into disease pathology and therapeutic responses. This presentation highlights the potential of 3D-printed microstents and the future of organoid-based approaches to revolutionize cardiovascular research and accelerate the development of personalized treatments.
