A tradução nos serviços de imigração comparação da tradução dos websites do SEF e da AIMA
This article aims to compare the level of localization of the websites of the main immigration institutions in Portugal, SEF and AIMA. Taking into account the ever-growing migration movements in Portugal and internationally, there is an increasingly urgentneed to disseminate multilingual information. Due to the digital transition, much information necessary to understand immigration processes is now available online. However, considering how diverse and multilingual the target audience of these services is, institutions should guarantee that this information is disseminated in a more accessible and multilingual way by translating and localizing these websites and their information. Using Arquivo.pt, we consulted the website pages of both SEF and AIMA, between 2018 and 2025, and collected data that allow us to analyze the localization level of these websites, such as translated documents, number of translated pages or paragraphs, what languages the information was translated into, quality of the translation, as well as other aspects. To better examine the level of localization and accessibility of these websites, we applied Jiménez-Crespo’s model, adapted by Dolmaya, that aims to evaluate the level of localization of a website. The results show that AIMA’s website presents a much lower localization level when compared to SEF. However, both websites seem to present low localization scores, considering that the majority of the translations had mainly English as a target language and only a significantly small number of documents, texts and infographics were translated, which might hinder communication and access to information to those who need it.
