Le tremblement de terre, catalyseur de l’apocalypse sociale dans Carlton de Cezar Petrescu
Our article is about Cezar Petrescu’s novel entitled Carlton (1944), which is inspired by the collapse of the eponymous building during the 1940 earthquake. In dealing with this novel, our research aims at studying the elements which underlie the connection between the destruction of the Carlton and the apocalypse of the Bucharest society of the time. For so doing, for instance, we shall analyze Biblical references, individual and collective characters, the images of the damages attributed to the earthquake.
