Carbon Connects the Society: Soil Carbon Connects Farming Communities with Climate-Smart Soils as a Tool – Indian Case Study

Abstract Soil carbon sequestration (SCS) in organic and inorganic forms can be assessed to estimate soil carbon footprints (CFs). These footprints help identify climate-smart soils (CSS) in regions with different land uses and bioclimatic systems. The CFs can measure the carbon units the farmers reap from the soil and crop management using appropriate farm practices. These carbon farmers can thus profit from their farms, creating a clean and sustainable environment to keep global warming at bay. This benefit will be an added advantage if such farmers maintain CSS in their farms using appropriate management practices with a blend of both organic and inorganic sources of plant nutrients. A model is suggested to link SCS, soil CFs, CSS and carbon unsssits. Information © The Author 2025
