Design of a cavity backed antenna operating at K band
Objective: In order to improve the disadvantages of current K-band antennas, such as low gain, high loss, and difficult integration, a cavity backed antenna operating at K-band is designed. Methods: Deep integration of coplanar waveguide (CPW) with ceramic resonators improves antenna performance by taking advantage of the wide frequency band, low loss of CPW, and the advantages of miniaturization and resonant cavity that can increase antenna gain. The dielectric substrate of the antenna and the resonant cavity are made of Roger RO3010 and Al<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf>O<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">3</inf> ceramics, respectively, suitable for multi scene application requirements due to the high frequency low loss properties of their materials. Based on the theoretical calculation, the final structural model and optimal parameters are determined by using the high-frequency structural simulation software HFSS and CST simulation analysis, according to the construction of the model and the sweep frequency optimization of the parameters. Results: The antenna operates in the range 17.62 GHz to 19.65 GHz, with three resonances in this frequency band with return losses of -39.74 dB at the resonant point -34.93 dB and -36.86 dB with a peak gain of 16.5 dBi. Conclusion: The antenna has the advantages of compact structure, good economy, high transmission efficiency, strong anti-jamming performance, and high gain, low loss, miniaturization and ease of integration. It is suitable for applications in aerospace, automotive industry, military equipment.
