PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF ARDUINO MEGA 2065 CONTROLLED RECYCLED LITHIUM-ION BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM (BESS)

This study evaluates the possibility of resuscitating discarded lithium-ion batteries through a systematic selection process to isolate useful cells from non-useful ones and integrates a battery management and suitable control System to ascertain a feasible, working Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) by combining a feedback mechanism for analysis and evaluation of the overall performance of the device.Previous similar research failed to address the issues of heterogeneity in recycled batteries and the need for interoperable systems to streamline components characteristic variations to achieve low-risk, safe, and acceptable performance of the recycled lithium-ion batteries. This BESS is achieved by developing a battery bank of 200Ah having 3 different voltage segments with a total output voltage of 12.6V while protecting the cells with control systems like battery management system (BMS), cooling system, temperature, and humidity sensors.A promising result is achieved, as indicated in the data, showing consistency in the output voltage of the 12 segments of the BESS and a voltage regulation average of 5% at each segment. This research is a success as it cost only of its value as if it were to be purchased as readymade in the market, and it is presently being used to supplement power at the Department of Mechatronics, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Nigeria, without any prior notice of failure.
