Effect of Cutting Positions, Seaweed Extract and Indole Butyric Acid on the Rooting and Vegetative Growth of Rose Cuttings.

The response of rose cuttings (Rosa × hybrida cv. Red Magic) to rooting and vegetative growth was examined in the present experiment, which was carried out in a greenhouse at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Duhok, Kurdistan region, Iraq, in 2024. The experiment consisted of two cutting positions (tip and basal), seaweed extract at three levels (0, 4, and 8 ml.L-1), and IBA at three concentrations (0, 1000, and 2000 mg.L-1). The best results rooting percentage (47.09 %), root number (16.96), root length (22.90 cm), root fresh weight (2.54 g), root dry weight (0.39 g), lateral shoot number (3.52), leaf number (9.93), leaf area (28.65 cm²), shoot fresh weight (3.58 g), shoot dry weight (1.06 g), and chlorophyll content (47.93 SPAD) were found from basal cuttings compared with tip cuttings. Also, it is indicated from the seaweed extract that 8 ml.L-1 gave the maximum rooting percentage (46.03%) and most of the studied characteristics. While 4 ml.L-1 gave the longest root (21.37 cm). Moreover, it is approved that IBA at 1000 ml.L-1 was provided the highest results of nearly all studied characteristics. Whereas the highest root number (14.61) was achieved at 2000 mg.L-1 IBA. Finally, the results of the study confirmed that rooting and growth of the rose cuttings were variable according to the shoot position of taking the cuttings and treatments used, basal cuttings, low concentrations of seaweed (4 ml.L-1), and IBA (1000 mg.L-1) can enhance rooting and growth of the cuttings.
