Uso das práticas integrativas e complementares por idosos em serviços de atenção primária à saúde

Introduction: with the increase in life expectancy at birth, health services, especially the primary care, needs to implement actions that support healthy aging. Objective: to map the Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (PICS) used by the elderly in the context of primary healthcare (PHC). Methods: this is a scope review according to the method proposed by the Joanna Briggs Institute with the following research question: what is the scientific evidence, in the context of PHC (context), of the use of PICS (concept) by elderly people (participants) for the promotion, maintenance and recovery of health, and for the prevention of injuries? The search for studies was carried out in seven databases between September/2022 and February/2023 and, for selection, the Raayan software was used. The analysis and synthesis of the extracted data took place in a narrative way. Results: 15.743 studies were retrieved and only four articles were selected for evidence mapping. All publications had a quantitative approach, three were carried out in Brazil, and the most used PICS were Lian Gong (n=3), Tai Chi Chuan (n=2) and Qigong (n=1).The benefits of the use of PICS by the elderly include several aspects such as improved self esteem, autonomy and disposition, reduction of pain and medication consumption, control of systemic arterial hypertension and improvement of balance and muscle strength. Conclusion: The studies identified the potential of PICS for promoting, maintaining and recovering the health of the elderly and that PHC services, especially in Brazil, have the capacity to offer them.
