Mechanical Properties and Anisotropy Analysis of α+β Dual Phase Ti-Fe Sintered Alloys via Hot Rolling Process

This study investigates the anisotropic tensile properties of Ti-Fe alloy sheets fabricated by powder metallurgy and hot rolled at two temperatures: 750°C (α+β phase region) and 1000°C (β phase region). Tensile tests were conducted at room temperature in both the transverse direction (TD) and rolling direction (RD). Results show that increasing Fe content significantly enhances the 0.2% yield strength (YS), reaching up to 1350 MPa in the TD of Ti-6 wt.%Fe rolled at 750°C. Materials rolled at 750°C showed greater strength than those rolled at 1000°C under the same Fe content and direction. Texture analysis and Schmid factor (SF) calculations revealed that in the α+β rolled materials, different slip systems were activated depending on the tensile direction, contributing to the observed anisotropy. In contrast, β-phase rolled materials exhibited less anisotropy due to randomized α-phase orientations. Furthermore, post-process heat treatment reduced dislocation density, enhancing ductility and lowering YS by facilitating slip system activity.
