Replantation of the digits made easy: technical tips
Digital amputations occur frequently even with improving workplace safety standards around the globe. However, despite the stable incidence of digital amputations, there has been a striking decline in the prevalence of digital replantations in the western world in recent years. This vanishing interest in digital replantations is unfortunate and can be attributed to various factors. However, in order to manage more complex cases such as multidigit amputations or mangling hand injuries, one must first be proficient in handling the basic digital replantation. The ability to perform digital replantation surgery well and efficiently is the hallmark of a young hand surgeon. In this article, the senior author, with experience of over 900 digital replantation surgeries, endeavors to revive interest in this practice by providing technical tips for an efficient, fast, and reliable procedure.
