Triglyceride-Glucose Index as a Predictor of Outcome in Elderly Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome: A Cross-sectional Observational Study
Abstract Background: This study aims to evaluate the triglyceride-glucose (Ty-G) index for predicting outcome in elderly patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study included 156 elderly patients (aged 60 years and older) admitted with ACS. Fasting triglyceride and glucose levels were measured within 24 h of admission to calculate the Ty-G index. The Ty-G index was compared between the survivor and nonsurvivor groups. Results: Patients with elevated Ty-G index values (mean, 4.50 ± 0.38) had a higher incidence of adverse cardiovascular events. Nonsurvivors had a higher mean Ty-G index (4.93 ± 0.26) compared to survivors (4.43 ± 0.35). The index was also elevated in diabetic patients (mean Ty-G = 4.68) and obese patients (mean Ty-G = 4.58) compared to nondiabetic patients (mean Ty-G = 4.48) and nonobese patients (mean Ty-G = 4.49). Conclusions: The Ty-G index serves as a valuable biomarker for predicting poor outcomes in elderly patients with ACS. It can be used as an early predictor of cardiovascular risk and adverse cardiovascular outcomes.
