2D Nanomaterials for Solar Hydrogen Production
The world is facing an energy crisis and severe environmental problems. 2D nanomaterials for solar hydrogen (H 2 ) production offer new opportunities to deal with these problems due to their large specific surface area, abundant active sites, and excellent photoelectric nature. In this review, a concise introduction to the motivation of 2D nanomaterials for solar H 2 production is begun. In addition, it is systematically discussed about the fundamental principles of 2D nanomaterials for solar H 2 generation including photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) H 2 production. Then, the essential prerequisites of 2D semiconducting photocatalysts for solar‐driven H 2 production are discussed in detail. Following that it is comprehensively summarized the latest advances on solar H 2 production by various 2D nanomaterials using photocatalytic and PEC H 2 production methods, especially highlighting the photocatalytic one. Finally, a summary and outlook into the challenges and the future of 2D nanomaterials for solar H 2 production is given. As research progresses and the technology develops further, it holds great promise to solve the energy crisis and alleviate environmental pressure on a global scale.
