Trade‐Offs Between Viscoelastic and Impact Performance in <scp>CFF</scp> ‐Printed Onyx Composites: A Taguchi <scp>L27</scp> Study With <scp>MARCOS</scp> / <scp>CRITIC</scp> / <scp>FUCOM</scp>

ABSTRACT Additive manufacturing of continuous fiber‐reinforced thermoplastics enables tailoring of stiffness, damping, and toughness; however, optimization is complicated by intrinsic trade‐offs between these properties. In this study, continuous fiber‐reinforced Onyx composites were fabricated using a Taguchi L27 design varying orientation, infill pattern, fiber type, and infill percentage. Dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and Izod impact testing revealed competing trends: for example, Exp. 3 (0°/Triangle/Carbon/50%) showed the highest damping with E ″ = 831 MPa but reduced impact strength (24.7 kJ m −2 ), while Exp. 11 (45°/Triangle/Glass/40%) provided the highest toughness (44.2 kJ m −2 ) at the expense of stiffness ( E ′ = 1.07 GPa). By contrast, Exp. 2 (0°/Triangle/Carbon/40%) exhibited a balanced performance with E ′ = 5.28 GPa, E ″ = 556 MPa, and Izod = 41.2 kJ m −2 , and was identified by the CRITIC–FUCOM–MARCOS framework as the best compromise solution. These findings demonstrate that no single configuration maximizes all properties, but trade‐offs can be systematically resolved through multi‐criteria decision‐making. The study highlights the relevance of combining Taguchi experimental design with hybrid optimization methods for guiding performance‐driven selection of printed continuous fiber composites. The outcomes demonstrate that hybrid optimization enables tailoring of continuous fiber composites for lightweight, impact‐resistant applications in aerospace and automotive sectors.
