Overcoming Common Challenges in Community-Based Fundraising

Community-based fundraising is shaped by systemic challenges that extend beyond operational constraints to include trust, capacity, and infrastructure. This article analyzes four recurring domains of difficulty—limited resources, community skepticism, infrastructure barriers, and volunteer management—and explores strategies for overcoming them. It highlights approaches such as leveraging in-kind donations, cross-sectoral partnerships, and affordable technologies to address resource gaps; emphasizes transparency and participation to build trust; and discusses adaptive solutions like mobile technologies and hybrid offline–online campaigns to mitigate infrastructure issues. Volunteer management is presented as a cornerstone, requiring training, recognition, and inclusivity to ensure sustained engagement. Situating these challenges within theories of resource dependency, social capital, and participatory development, the article argues that adaptive, context-sensitive practices not only resolve barriers but also strengthen organizational legitimacy and resilience.
