ENVELHECIMENTO E SAÚDE: BENEFÍCIOS DA PRÁTICA REGULAR DE ATIVIDADE FÍSICA PELA PESSOA IDOSA
Population aging is one of the greatest challenges of contemporary society, demanding scientific and social responses to ensure quality of life for older adults. In this context, regular physical activity emerges as an essential intervention for health promotion, prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases, and maintenance of functional independence. This study, conducted through a narrative literature review of publications from 2019 to 2025, complemented by classical authors in the field, aimed to analyze the main benefits of physical activity in aging. Physiological, cognitive, emotional, social, functional, and preventive-therapeutic aspects were considered, demonstrating that physical exercise acts as a multifaceted resource capable of integrating body, mind, and society. The findings confirm that physically active older adults present lower risks of functional and cognitive decline, greater psychological well-being, stronger social engagement, and higher healthy life expectancy. Gaps were also identified in the literature, such as the limited focus on older adults with disabilities and the challenges of long-term adherence to exercise programs. It is concluded that physical activity is an indispensable condition for active aging, with Physical Education professionals playing a central role in implementing safe, enjoyable, and meaningful practices, as well as mediating between science, public policies, and communities.
