High-temperature-resistant wideband absorbing metasurface integrated optimization design

• A high-temperature-resistant metasurface framework is proposed. • SiO 2 aerogel are used as both thermal insulation and dielectric materials for metasurface design. • Genetic algorithm is applied to wideband electromagnetic performance optimization. • The optimized wideband absorbing metasurface reach more than 90 % absorption efficiency at 6.1–22.2 GHz. Microwave devices sometimes need to operate amid complex electromagnetic interference and other external disturbances, which puts forward more stringent requirements for electromagnetic protection and thermal protection. Traditional metasurface design is limited to normal temperature working environment, which is difficult to satisfy the electromagnetic protection in high temperature environment. In this work, we propose a high temperature resistant metasurface with integrated optimization architecture to alleviate this problem. Specifically, SiO 2 aerogel which has super thermal insulation performance is adopted as the dielectric substrate, and the absorbing discretized structure of the resistance film is employed as the functional layer set between the SiO 2 substrates. The pattern of resistance film is optimized based on genetic algorithm, and the wideband electromagnetic absorption is realized. As verification, the metasurface is fabricated and measured, and all the experimental results have validated the effectiveness and robustness of our design. Importantly, this work provides a path for electromagnetic control of metasurface in high temperature environment, which can be further applied in satellite communication and other fields.
