Abstract B045: Bridging Psychosocial Support and Clinical Navigation in Pancreatic Cancer: A Foundation-Led Model for Patient Advocacy

Abstract This project aimed to improve the quality of life for people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer by expanding access to psychosocial support, second opinion guidance, and patient-centered advocacy. The Seena Magowitz Foundation developed and implemented several national support programs, including a virtual caregiver group (Pancreatic Cancer SOS), a second opinions referral system, and structured patient communications for diagnosis, survivorship, and clinical decision-making. Programs are grounded in lived experience and designed to address emotional, informational, and logistical gaps commonly faced by patients and families.Since its launch in 2023, the Pancreatic Cancer SOS initiative has reached over 500 participants. The Second Opinions Program continues to guide patients toward top-tier medical centers, easing the referral process and promoting timely access to expert care. Across all services, the Foundation currently supports more than 600 patients and survivors. These programs operate in parallel with ongoing funding of clinical trials and research, contributing to improved therapeutic options and patient outcomes. This model illustrates how advocacy organizations can be integrated into the cancer care ecosystem. By combining structured support with research investment and direct care navigation, nonprofit-led efforts can deliver real-time benefits to patients and their families. Citation Format: Steven Z.
