Connecting Community Support Organization Care Providers with Special Olympics Resources
Many care providers who support adults with intellectu-al disabilities in residential settings lack the confidence and skills to enable physical activity opportunities and residents’ participation. In this paper, we describe pro-fessional development training (workshop and prob-lem-solving check-ins) designed for residential care providers. Our training introduced care providers to existing Special Olympics exercise resources and we aimed to equip them with tools and strategies to im-plement and progress exercises with adults with intel-lectual disabilities. We also describe lessons learned from implementing the training with 8 care providers in 8 group homes with 14 residents.
