Digital Twin Design and Modeling to Support Production Planning & Control
Utilizing digital twins (DTs) in production planning and control (PPC) has emerged as a solution to enhance production system responsiveness to increasing demand variability. However, principles for designing and validating effective DTs are not explicitly clear. Furthermore, introducing DTs in PPC often requires redesigning the traditionally hierarchical PPC process. This paper answers the research question: ”What design process and design principles, models, and methods apply to the ODT design process and the associated PPC redesign process?” by proposing a systems engineering approach using an enriched Vee-model.
