Mn 4+ ‐Activated Robust Red‐Emitting PiG for Laser‐Driven Display

Abstract Laser phosphor display is an emerging display technology with high brightness and wide color gamut, wherein the red light is currently converted by K 2 SiF 6 : Mn 4+ or perovskite quantum dots phosphors that, however, show poor chemical stability and low quenching temperature even dispersed in glass for resistance of high‐density laser irradiation. In this work, a robust red‐emitting Mg 14 (0.75Ge,0.25Ti) 5 O 24 : Mn 4+ , B 3+ (MGTOB: Mn 4+ ) phosphor is developed, and its phosphor‐in‐glass (PiG) film is prepared on a sapphire substrate. Microstructure and spectral characterization show that the glass component has a negligible erosive effect on MGTOB: Mn 4+ phosphor. The PiG film also exhibits excellent thermal quenching resistance, with the thermal quenching temperature reaches 673 K (400 °C). The application potential of the MGTOB: Mn 4+ /β‐SiAlON:Eu 2+ PiG film in laser projectors is demonstrated, showing a wide color gamut of 108.2% NTSC compared to a commercial YAG:Ce 3+ converted LED projector. The results indicate that the new red‐emitting PiG film is a highly promising laser‐driven color converter.

Microstructure and spectral characterization show that the glass component has a negligible erosive effect on MGTOB: Mn 4+ phosphor.
