Simulation analysis of a temperature drop and snowfall process causing wire icing in Guizhou mountainous region based on WRF-LES

This study employed the WRF-LES model in conjunction with high-precision SRTM terrain data to simulate a cooling snowfall weather process in Guizhou in January 2025 at a horizontal resolution of 100 meters. The results revealed that from 12:00 on January 8 to 12:00 on January 9, the temperature first rose and then dropped, with high relative humidity. The warm and moist air flow provided conditions for precipitation. Subsequently, the southward movement of cold air caused the temperature to continue to drop, with fluctuations in relative humidity and increased wind speed, which not only transported water vapor for precipitation but also intensified heat loss. The precipitation amount reached a peak from 12:00 on January 8 to 00:00 on January 9 and then weakened. The cloud microphysical characteristics indicated that the precipitation mixing ratio briefly increased, the water vapor mixing ratio gradually decreased, and the cloud water mixing ratio fluctuated, reflecting the changes in the cloud layers. Throughout the process, the wind speed, temperature, humidity, precipitation amount, and cloud microphysical characteristics interacted with each other, jointly driving the evolution of the weather. The simulation results show that the WRF-LES model combined with high-precision terrain data can effectively capture micro-meteorological changes in complex terrain, providing important references for weather forecasting and research.
