Taxonomic redescription of a Micropsalliota (Agaricaceae, Agaricales) s pecies from Pakistan
The genus Micropsalliota remains taxonomically understudied in Pakistan. In this study, we redescribe a species, Micropsalliota rosea , based on collections from Lahore, Pakistan. Its distinctiveness is supported by a phylogenetic analyses of DNA sequence data based on nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (nrITS) and nuclear large subunit (nLSU), gene regions. The species is placed as a unique lineage within the genus. Micropsalliota rosea is morphologically characterized by a pinkish‐red pileus, convex to applanate, often with a slightly depressed and darker central disc bearing squamules concolorous with the pileus surface. Microscopic features include basidiospores that are amygdaliform in side view and ellipsoidal in frontal view (measuring 4.67 × 2.83 µm), clavate to broadly clavate basidia, and cheilocystidia varying from obovoid, utriform, lageniform, claviform to broadly utriform shapes, with broadly obtuse to subcapitate apices. The stipe is similarly pigmented, adorned with squamules matching the pileus in coloration. A comprehensive morphological description is accompanied by field photographs, microstructures, and molecular phylogenetic evidence, confirming the taxonomic distinctiveness of this species within Micropsalliota.
