Beyond Full Automation: A Critical Survey of RPA and Human-in-the-Loop Hybrid Workflows
Today's businesses have to decide between human-in-the-loop (HITL) solutions and fully automated systems (RPA).While HITL incorporates human judgement for complex decisions, RPA excels at repetitive tasks. There are gaps in our knowledge of RPA vs. HITL in contemporary contexts because the majority of research compares RPA to older automation.Accuracy, cost, scalability, adaptability, setup complexity, and workload handling are the six domains in which our study examines real-world data from 2015 to 24. Results indicate that RPA reduces expenses by 60-80% for tasks that are predictable but has trouble with unforeseen situations (15-30% failure rate). In complex cases, HITL achieves 98% accuracy, but it costs two to three times as much. While manufacturing prefers RPA for mass production, sectors like healthcare and finance prefer HITL for delicate tasks.Important queries answered: When should businesses use HITL vs. RPA?What is the difference between error rates and costs?Which sectors are best suited for each approach? What effect do they have on workflows?
