А linguistic analysis of latin nomina actionis terms in the field of rehabilitation

The structural models, derivational potential and etymology of Latin terms that serve the modern and extremely popular branch of medicine - "Therapy and Rehabilitation" have been studied. It has been found that in the rehabilitation terminological system there is a significant number of general medical nomina actionis, which acquire a narrowly specialized meaning due to the addition of qualifying components to the basic noun. The main attention is focused on nomina actionis, which occupy a prominent place in the studied layer of general medical terminology due to the productivity of the suffixes ‑io, ‑tio, ‑sio, which was confirmed by the quantitative analysis carried out by the authors. It has been found that in the studied layer of terminological lexicon, the maximum productivity is demonstrated by the Latin prefix re‑ with a clearly defined semantics of "restoration, repetition; back or again". Considerable attention is paid to the content of the term "adaptatiо, onis f". It has been established that the derivational possibilities of this term, denoted by a Latin verbal noun, are provided by the use of the Latin prefixes re‑ (indicates restoration, repetition), des‑ (indicates the elimination or absence of something), prae‑ (indicates a previous action or phenomenon), post‑ (indicates an action or phenomenon that occurs after something), co‑ (indicates a certain action that is performed together with someone or something). The analysis carried out has shown that the general scientific meaning of the term “adaptatio” varies depending on the environment of adaptation, which is the reason for the emergence of an adaptive need, that is, the phenomenon of interdisciplinary synonymy is observed. It is emphasized that the semantic ambiguity of the term “adaptatio” complicates the definition and understanding of the concept. In connection with which the correct interpretation can be ensured exclusively by joining to the basic noun term additional conceptual components, mostly adjectives, which clarify and specify it. Referring to legislative sources, the authors differentiate the meaning of the terms "abilitatio" and "rehabilitatio". The latest hybrid terms with the term element of Greek origin τῆλε‑, belonging to nomina actionis, are considered. The conclusions note that further thorough analysis of the structural, etymological, lexico-semantic features of Latin terms, which form the terminological core of the rehabilitation field, will contribute to the formation of terminological competence of future specialists in the field of therapy and rehabilitation, and will be useful for specialists in the field of lexicography, in particular educational
