Simple nominative sentences and expressive style in Oleksandr Dovzhenko՚s work

This article examines monosyllabic nominative sentences as syntactic expression devices in the literary discourse of Oleksandr Dovzhenko. These sentences, denoting intentional experience of existence, are specific markers of the author’s idiomatic linguistic style (idiolect). Drawing on rich material, for example, the study outlines the structural, semantic, and functional features of such sentences, the author categorises and analyses several kinds, including existential, indicative-nominative, evaluative-nominative, and motivational‑ nominative speech expressions, announcing the complex composition of «nominative representation». The communicative and intentional meaning of these constructions is examined with respect to how they reflect Dovzhenko’s personal speech style, proclaim existential states, describe natural phenomena and environmental conditions, point up essential information, prompt reflection, and facilitate overall text coherence and expressiveness. To achieve the overall objective, a descriptive method was employed, utilizing techniques of continuous extraction and systematization for the selection and inventory of factual material; a structural method was applied to analyze syntactic expressives in Oleksandr Dovzhenko’s writing style; and a contextual‑interpretative approach was used to identify simple nominative sentences in the aspect of realizing the author’s intentions. This study generalizes that in O. Dovzhenko’s language creation, simple nominative sentences function as syntacticexpressives that infuse the text with expressiveness, enhance its vividness, and connote a range of diverse emotions. By their nature, these constructions possess a high degree of expressivity, as they not only convey information to the addressee but also actively influence its perception by emphasizing the essential elements of the utterance. Their communicative purpose is to highlight and emphasize a particular idea, clarify details, and strengthen the semantic and emotional impact of the text
