First person – Mario Ledesma-Terrón and Diego Pérez-Dones

ABSTRACT First Person is a series of interviews with the first authors of a selection of papers published in Journal of Cell Science, helping researchers promote themselves alongside their papers. Mario Ledesma-Terrón and Diego Pérez-Dones are co-first authors on ‘ Object Stitching by Clustering of Adjacent Regions for accurate quantification of three-dimensional tissues’, published in JCS. Mario conducted the research described in this article while a PhD student in David Míguez's lab at the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa, Universidad Autonóma de Madrid, Spain. He is now a postdoc in the lab of Adrian Valli at the Centro Nacional de Biotechnología, CSIC, Madrid, Spain, investigating how cells constitute a connectome that modulates mesoscopic features of the system. Mario is also a professor at Universidad Nebrija, Madrid, where he focuses on the modeling and simulation of biological processes. Diego conducted the research described in this article while a PhD student in David Míguez's lab. Having recently completed his PhD, Diego is now actively seeking a postdoctoral position to pursue his research interests, which include investigating the existence of universal mathematical laws in biology and determining what makes humans different from other living beings.
