Responsiveness of Green Economic Growth Due to Fluctuations in Education and Technology
Green economic growth has been recognized as a solution to accelerate economic growth and environmental quality. Therefore, increasing green economic growth has been a core policy agenda in developing and developed countries. To formulate policies that enhance green economic growth, the existing literature examines the determinants of green economic growth. It has been found that education is one of the crucial yet least explored determinants of green economic growth. Moving a step further, the synergy of education and technology has remained unexplored in the context of green economic growth. Additionally, the impact of positive and negative fluctuations in education and technology on green economic growth remains unexplored. Based on this, the present study aims to investigate two questions: (1) whether green economic growth is influenced by education amidst technology. (2) What is the impact of positive/negative fluctuations in education and technology on green economic growth? To accomplish these objectives, the panel dataset on BRICS countries is adopted, covering the period from 1990 to 2020. The findings report that education has a negative impact on green economic growth, while the combined impact of education and technology is positive, indicating that education upsurges green economic growth in the presence of technology. Further, the negative fluctuations in education and technology promote green economic growth. Contrarily, positive fluctuations in education hinder green economic growth. The study suggests promoting technological advancement to enhance green economic growth in BRICS countries.
