Compact Hexagonal CPW Stair-case Ground Microstrip Patch Antenna for Wideband Wireless Applications

This work presents a compact coplanar waveguide fed microstrip patch antenna designed to operate over a broad frequency spectrum ranging from 1.5 GHz to 2.8 GHz, with distinct resonances observed at 1.7 GHz and 2.4 GHz. The antenna features a staircase-shaped ground plane configuration. At 2.4 GHz, the design achieves a peak gain of 5.8 dB, while the measured return loss values at 1.7 GHz and 2.4 GHz are –37.6 dB and –38.1 dB, respectively. The performance of the antenna is verified using computational HFSS model. The physical structure of the antenna is fabricated and tested. Far-field and simulation results are found to be closely identical which confirms that the layout is reliable.
