Unified and Configurable Method for Syntactic and Semantic Integration of Heterogeneous Sensor

Nowadays, security agencies deploy wide variety of sensors to enable round-the- clock surveillance of vulnerable target areas. All the sensors have their own data format, communication interfaces, control commands, encoding schemes and services, which makes them syntactically and semantically heterogeneous. This heterogeneity not only causes difficulties in their integration with the consumer command control systems but also makes the data discovery cumbersome and interoperability more challenging. In addition, the integration and data acquisition from heterogeneous sensors is one of the main challenges in development of effective surveillance system. To address this challenge, this paper presents the design and development of a UCMI (unified, configurable and multi-mode integrator) for semantic and syntactic integration of heterogeneous sensors for security surveillance applications. UCMI supports most of the common data primitives, scalable and user defined interface and template configuration, data collection, storage and visualization features. In addition, it supports multi-mode interface for multi-platform sensors and systems and also provide output in standard JSON format. The scalable and seamless integration of sensors via UCMI simplifies the system development process, reduces the integration time thereby reduces the overall integration and validation time.
