Six-Phase Electric-Drive-Reconfiguration System With Multiple Fault-Tolerant Operations for Electric Light Tactical Vehicle

This article investigates a novel six-phase electric-drive reconfiguration system for the electric light tactical vehicle. The highlight is the robust fault-tolerant capability in both propulsive and charging operations by the proposed reconfigured system, which satisfies the demand of high-reliability requirements of electric light tactical vehicle (ELTV). In addition, the reconfigured system leverages existing propulsion circuit components for battery charging, eliminating the need for a dedicated charging unit, which conserving valuable space for additional materials or battery pack. To minimize the electromagnetic torque in the charging mode, motor winding connection to the grid is optimized under both pre-fault and post-fault tolerant operations. Consequently, the pre-rotation of rotor is no longer required, which simplifies the typical charging procedure. Detailed development of multiple post-fault tolerant operations and control methods are presented. The finite element simulation is also conducted to verify the effectiveness of the post-fault operations. Finally, experimental results further corroborate the proposed electric-drive reconfiguration system.
