A Novel 5.8-GHz High-Efficiency Rectifier Based on Spoof Surface Plasmon Polariton Transmission Line

In this letter, a novel 5.8 GHz high-efficiency rectifier based on a Spoof Surface Plasmon Polariton (SSPP) transmission line is proposed for the first time. A well-designed dual-layer antisymmetric SSPP structure is integrated in the rectifier for improving the rectification efficiency, while blocking the harmonics interfering other devices connected to the rectifier. Additionally, the proposed rectifier circuit effectively eliminates the need for a large continuous metal ground plane by the SSPP structure, so it possesses potential flexibility. Moreover, and more importantly, the proposed SSPP rectifier contains no lumped components except a single Silicon Schottky Barrier Diode (SBD) and a load resistor, so it is suitable for high-frequency high-efficiency rectification. For validation, the proposed rectifier is fabricated and measured. The measured results show that, the RF-to-DC conversion efficiency is higher than 78.2% at 5.8 GHz with an input power of 9 dBm. In conclusion, the novel SSPP rectifier is a good candidate for high-frequency high-efficiency rectification, which is unprecedented in previous works.
