Türkçeyi Yabancı Dil Olarak Öğrenenler İçin Metin Değiştirimi: “Gülşefdeli Yemeni” Hikâyesi Örneği
In recent years, there has been a growing interest in teaching Turkish as a foreign language, leading to increased demand in this field. Consequently, scholarly research on the subject has gained significant momentum. Among the emerging areas of focus is the adaptation of literary texts for language learners. In the process of learning Turkish, it is crucial for learners to engage not only with textbook materials but also with authentic literary texts that are rich in linguistic features and effectively reflect Turkish language and culture. Such texts offer learners the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Turkish culture and derive aesthetic appreciation from the reading experience. To ensure comprehensibility and pedagogical appropriateness, original literary texts are often adapted through methods such as simplification, expansion, and facilitation, aligning them with learners’ language proficiency levels. However, there is a noticeable scarcity of both original and adapted reading materials tailored to specific proficiency levels in Turkish as a foreign language. In this context, the present study aims to adapt Hüseyin Su’s short story Gülşefdeli Yemeni for B1-level learners of Turkish as a foreign language, employing established text adaptation strategies. The study follows a qualitative research design, specifically using document analysis. Following the incorporation of expert feedback, the adapted version of the text was finalized and presented as a supplementary reading material for learners at B1 level and above.
