La préservation de la biodiversité pendant les conflits armés : un impératif pour la résilience à la crise climatique

The climate crisis is one of the current existential threats facing humanity. While its causes are diverse and real, its worsening is equally evident and devastating. As a reminder, anthropogenic activities of responsible gases, such as methane and CO2, constitute the main cause of this global crisis, but alongside these, there are many others, including armed conflicts. Beyond the spatial pollution they can cause in combat zones, armed conflicts contribute to the degradation of biodiversity. Indeed, while the international community struggles tooth and nail to find appropriate solutions to economically oriented anthropogenic activities, armed conflicts are intensifying and causing sometimes incalculable impacts on biodiversity as a whole, consequently weakening the assets of resilience and adaptation to climate change. This study shows us how armed conflicts increase the climate threat and paves the way for not only preserving and restoring ecosystems but also the precautions that must be taken to ensure biodiversity capable of strengthening resilience in the face of climate change.
