Metamaterial-inspired Orthogonally Aligned Shifted Ring Resonator Array (SRRA) for Enhancing Signal-to-noise Ratio of 1.5T MRI Scans

Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a crucial non-invasive tool for high-precision tissue and organ visualization. Enhancing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) often requires increasing the static magnetic field, raising safety concerns for patients with metallic implants. Metamaterials offer a solution by amplifying the local magnetic field without stronger static fields. This work presents a metamaterial inspired orthogonally- aligned shifted ring resonator array for 1.5T MRI at 63.87 MHz, which enhances the magnetic field by 3.8 times at the phantom’s surface. The SRRA, built on a 0.2 mm FR4 substrate that fits within the 2 mm spatial constraints of MRI scanners while complying with SAR safety standards. Its integration will improve imaging quality without modifying scanner architecture, advancing MRI technology by enhancing image clarity while ensuring safety. By addressing the limitation of current methods, the proposed design represents a significant step towards efficient clinical imaging.
